Venting on a Valentine

I want to say that the sun struggles to pierce the clouds,
That it gasps at overcoming the hills,
All so its rays can reach you,
All so it can give a pleasant glow to your skin and hair,
The warm light that your beauty sure deserves;
But that I'm willing to get in its way,
Willing to block it all out,
Willing to eclipse the sun,
If that's what it takes to kiss you.

I want to say basically that,
But I want to say it with good meter and rhyme
Which is fucking hard.

Erato, muse of poetry,
Thou art a bitch.

  1. LOL! "Erato, muse of poetry, Thou art a bitch." That can be true but ya did good. No, ya did GREAT! I loved the ending:
"But that I'm willing to get in its way,
Willing to block it all out,
    Willing to eclipse the sun,
If that's what it takes to kiss you."

    Happy Valentine's!

  2. Thanks, Sweets and Frenchy! I think I've got a handle on the rhymed version now (nothing like last minute pressure). Happy Valentine's Day to you both!

  3. Haha...How did I miss this? Poetry can be a bitch...but you somehow managed to say just what you wanted to say, rhythm be damned.

Loved it and I'm sure she did, too.

    Hugs,

    Pink

  4. Thanks, Pink! I managed to put it to rhyme for her, but I like the free verse version as well, so I'm glad I threw that up here.

  5. Lol, well despite your professed issues with the poetic verse, that was very nicely put.
